The Benefits of LED Lighting
The main benefits of LED lighting is often touted as the most energy-efficient lighting technologies available. However, many people are put off changing over to LED lights because of the initial cost.
There are more reasons to switch to LED lighting than just saving energy. Why should you get rid of your conventional lighting and start using LED lights in your home or office? Here are the 5 top benefits of using LED lights:
1. Long Life
One of the best reasons for using LED lights is that they last much longer than conventional lights. LED lights use diodes that don’t burn out and have a life expectation of up to 50,000 hours. What does this mean for you? If you were to leave the light on for 8 hours a day, it would just under 10 years until you have to replace the bulb.
2. LED Lights are Energy Efficient
Some consumer reports show that lighting accounts for around a quarter of your electricity bills. When you take into account the fact that traditional lighting is only about 20% efficient, that means that a lot of your money is getting lost. LED lights are about 80% efficient. This means that in a year you can save a lot of money by using LED lighting.
3. Instant Lighting
One drawback with using energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights is that the take a few seconds to warm up. Also, frequent switching on and off can drastically reduce life expectancy. However, LED lights provide instant bright light and they are not affected by frequent switching on and off.
4. LED Lights are More Durable
LED lights will last much longer because they are far more durable than traditional lighting methods. They usually are very sturdy and won’t break easily. They also last longer in extreme temperatures, making them the perfect solution for outdoor lighting.
5. Zero Emissions
LED lighting doesn’t have any UV emissions. They also don’t contain dangerous elements like mercury (mercury is in compact fluorescent light bulbs). This means that they are much safer for the environment and are good for illuminating objects that are sensitive to UV radiation.
There are many benefits to LED lights. What’s more, the technology behind them is constantly improving and soon they will be the standard in many homes and offices.
